Book Lending Information System

The Book Lending Information System is a web-based library management solution designed to digitize and streamline the entire book borrowing lifecycle. Built with PHP and the Laravel framework for robust backend logic, MySQL for reliable data storage, and Bootstrap for a clean, responsive user interface, the system integrates barcode scanning technology to dramatically reduce manual data entry and human error.

Librarians can register new books by scanning their ISBN barcodes, which automatically populates title, author, publisher, and edition information from a linked metadata service. Each book is assigned a unique internal barcode label that tracks its physical location and lending status. When a patron borrows a book, the librarian simply scans their membership card and the book's barcode; the system records the transaction, calculates the due date, and updates the real-time inventory count.

The return process is equally streamlined: scanning the book's barcode on return automatically closes the lending record, calculates any late fees, and makes the item available for the next borrower. A comprehensive digital catalog allows patrons and staff to search for books by title, author, category, or availability status, with filters for genre, publication year, and shelf location.

Reporting and analytics features give library administrators insights into borrowing patterns, popular titles, overdue items, and patron activity. Automated email reminders notify borrowers before and after their due dates, reducing late returns. The Laravel backend handles authentication with role-based access control, ensuring that only authorized staff can modify inventory records, while patrons have read-only access to the catalog and their personal borrowing history.
