Kamus Lundayeh

Kamus Lundayeh is a digital dictionary platform dedicated to preserving and promoting the Lundayeh (Lun Bawang) language, an indigenous language spoken across interior Borneo — in Krayan, Long Bawan, and Mentarang in North Kalimantan; Lawas, Ba'kelalan, and Limbang in Sarawak; Sipitang and Ulu Padas in Sabah; and Temburong in Brunei. Built with Laravel and Inertia.js for a seamless single-page application experience, bundled with Vite for fast asset compilation, and served through Cloudflare for global edge delivery.

The dictionary provides bidirectional Lundayeh ↔ Indonesian lookups. Each word receives its own dedicated, SEO-friendly page containing the definition, example sentences in both languages, pronunciation guidance, and cultural notes that capture the context in which the word is used — from everyday household terms to expressions rooted in Lundayeh customs and traditions. This per-word page architecture, combined with canonical URLs, JSON-LD structured data with search actions, and a complete XML sitemap, makes the entire vocabulary discoverable through search engines.

The search experience is central to the application: users can look up words instantly, explore random word suggestions for casual discovery, and bookmark entries they want to revisit. A word history keeps track of previously viewed entries, turning the dictionary into a personal learning companion. The interface supports both light and dark themes with automatic system preference detection, and the application is installable as a Progressive Web App so speakers and learners in remote areas with limited connectivity can keep the dictionary at hand.

Beyond its role as a reference tool, Kamus Lundayeh functions as a language preservation effort. Documenting an indigenous language in a structured, accessible digital format helps younger generations stay connected to their linguistic heritage while giving researchers and language enthusiasts worldwide a reliable resource. The Laravel backend manages the growing word database with an administration workflow for adding and refining entries, while Inertia.js delivers app-like navigation without the complexity of a separate API layer.
